What is the weather like at Jajarawong in winter?

Jajarawong has a mild winter, although the nights can get very cold. We have about thirty inches of rain a year which falls mainly in winter—this is about half the rainfall of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. Our day temperature tends to be 2 or 3 degrees warmer than Daylesford. This is a great time to sleep in, enjoy the wood fires, good food, good wine and a good book. Note that we are closed for business between 1st July and 30th September each year.

What is the weather like at Jajarawong in summer?

This part of Central Victoria tends to have a lovely, long warm to hot summer period, with average temperatures from high 20s to mid 30s—sometimes getting into the high 30s. Rainfall is low in summer, usually coming as thundery showers. This is a great time to enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming and fishing in our large dams. We have lots of shade by way of trees all over the property. Our camp ground opens in October right through until Easter, so you have a choice of cottage accommodation or camping.

How far is Jajarawong from Daylesford?

Jajarawong is midway between Castlemaine and Daylesford at Yandoit, approximately 25km in each direction.

What are 'naturists'?

Ordinary people who enjoy clothes-free recreation. Jajarawong offers couples and families the opportunity to enjoy our 73 acre recreation area.

We are not naturists.  Are we welcome?

Jajarawong is open to everyone, but you must understand that most guests are naturists who can go anywhere on our 73 acre property. As long as you are comfortable with this, then you are more than welcome.

Day Visitors are welcome, however, to avoid disappointment, please contact us prior to your arrival.

Can we camp, although we are not naturists?

Anyone can camp. Our camping area is open late October to Easter each year. This is the time when you will find naturists taking the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful camping area and all the other activities associated with clothes-optional recreation.

What percentage of your guests are naturists?

During the summer months about 90% of our guests are naturists. Naturists may stay in cottages or camp, and they use our 73 acres for recreation including swimming, fishing, sunbathing and general socialising. During the late autumn season, naturist number are few and activities are usually confined to indoors. Because our property is hilly and with good bush cover it is always possible to find privacy when you need it.

Can someone new to naturism 'skinnydip' if they want?

Lots of people on hot days head for the dams and other recreation areas. Skinnydipping is usually the norm.

What are the advantages of being on the Jajarawong mailing list?

Our mailing list recipients get the latest information on special deals and also special events and happenings in and around the surrounding area. Our mailing list subscription area is on the Bookings and Enquiry Page.

Who’s on your mailing list?

Anyone who is interested in travel, camping, accommodation and the country—especially the historic countryside around Jajarawong—should be on the mailing list! They will get the chance to grab special Stand-by Weekend Offers and also hear about special current and forthcoming events at Jajarawong. Remember our property is geared up for naturists and those who love the freedom of the bush.

Why don’t you have 240 volt power in the cottages?

It ended up being a conscious choice based on economics and creating a very special alternate lifestyle ambience. LP gas powers the cottage lights, hot water service, stove and fridge.  Gas lights offer a very special warm and romantic ambience…most guests love the effect. No television or radios to spoil the peace and tranquillity. There is 240 volt power to the homestead and guest lounge—this facility allows for additional service and creature comforts for guests.

Why don’t you allow pets at Jajarawong?

We have made a conscious choice to register with the Department of Natural Resource & Environment, and we have been accepted as a Land for Wildlife property—we provide a safe haven for wildlife.  We do our best to protect existing native vegetation  and we plant extra trees. Domestic cats and dogs threaten our native wildlife; currently bird life and native animals are flourishing in our safe environment.

Are you environmentally  friendly?

Yes!  We do our best to protect the whole environment. We buy–in our firewood from Government–regulated woodlots. We recycle where possible, but do ask guests to also take responsibility for their own rubbish.

Can you read with gas lights?

Although not as bright as 240 volt globes they certainly provide enough light for domestic activities, including reading—provided you sit under the light. The gas lights are placed in situations that provide maximum lighting.

Why doesn’t the hot tub and sauna operate all the time?

The hot tub is heated using LPG; this fuel has become very expensive. To help reduce our running costs, the hot tub is also installed with solar panels. The addition of 240 volt power to the property means we can filter and clean the water without the need for expensive diesel fuel. In the summer there is now more opportunity to use the tub more regularly because of the solar application.
